How to Recognize Your Body Type

William H. Sheldon, Ph.D., MD, invented these 3 body types for the world in 1940. Later fully examining different individuals and the rates at which they increased fat and muscle, he discovered that by eating foods especially helpful to each body type and doing exercises created especially to improve the traits of each one, each body type can optimize the rate at which they burn fat and gain muscle.

  • These body types usually have a rectangular shape and lack curves or definition. Ectomorphs have very large metabolisms, which is why they have trouble gaining and managing body weight.

Eating for your body type?

Whereas activity can only improve your body so much, and you cannot completely change your body composition, you can change your appearance and improve the characteristics you have by doing the correct exercises. Following the proper nutrition plan for your standard can also assist you to burn fat in all the right places and support to develop your muscles.



Ectomorphs have a hard time managing precise body fat levels, so they should usually restrict their cardiovascular exercise and focus on strength training.
